Accredited exercise physiologists (EPs) are university qualified allied health professionals equipped with the knowledge, skills and competencies to design, deliver and evaluate safe and effective exercise interventions.

Exercise physiology is for people with acute, sub-acute or chronic medical conditions, injuries or disabilities.

Pathology domains covered by the services of EPs include:
  • NDIS

  • Neurological
  • Cardiovascular
  • Musculoskeletal
  • Respiratory/pulmonary and mental health
  • Any other conditions for which there is evidence that exercise can improve the client’s clinical status.

Our Exercise Physiologists at Yawa Aquatic Centre work with a wide range of clients, including those with:

  • Diabetes and other metabolic conditions
  • cardiovascular and pulmonary disease,
  • arthritis, osteoporosis and other musculoskeletal conditions
  • neurological conditions
  • cancers, and
  • mental health conditions.

If you have Private Health insurance or you are currently under WorkCover, TAC, DVA funding streams you may qualify for rebates under these compensable schemes. You'll find a guide to our fees below.

Our Mission 

We want all of our members to be in tip top shape, especially members who are struggling to afford health services. We understand how hard it can be when struggling to get help with medical conditions or injuries.

That's why we have made it our mission to ensure each and every member has access to health care services. 

When our members are ill and have no access to care, our team of health professionals will assist you during your recovery. Delivering a range of benefits including exercise physiology services.

Working towards providing an opportunity for access and inclusion to all individuals who previously haven't had the ability to seek such treatment due to the associated financial burden. 

What is an Exercise Physiologist?

Exercise Physiologists (EPs) are recognised and registered by the Australian Government as allied health professionals that specialise in the prescription of exercise to treat and manage acute, sub-acute and chronic medical conditions, musculoskeletal injuries or disabilities.

With university degree education, an Exercise Physiologist can work with patients from post-surgery in hospital settings to return to work/sport at community level in private practice. Exercise Physiologists can also assist with athletic development and work in elite sport.

Why should you see an Exercise Physiologist?

Exercise Physiologists are qualified to prescribe exercise for health, rehabilitation and fitness. The skills and knowledge of an Exercise Physiologist are developed over 5 years of University education which enables them to treat proficiently in a variety of settings. This includes land-based exercise, water-based exercise (hydrotherapy) and through education via individualised health counselling and facilitated group programs

Who is Exercise Physiology for?

Exercise Physiology is for people who a have high risk of developing or diagnosed with:

  • Cardiovascular conditions

    • Peripheral artery disease
  • Musculoskeletal injuries
    • Muscle strains/tears
    • Back pain
    • Joint pain
    • Arthritis/Osteoarthritis/Osteoporosis
  • Respiratory conditions
    • COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease)
    • Asthma
    • Emphysema
  • Post-surgery Rehabilitation
    • Knee or hip replacement
    • Arthroscopes 
    • Laminectomy/discectomy/spinal fusion
  • Type 1 and 2 Diabetes
  • Cancers
  • Mental Health
  • Obesity

Exercise Physiologists can also work with healthy populations to assist them to optimise their health and fitness goals, leading to improved function and ability to complete activities of daily living.

Do I need a referral?

You don’t need a referral unless you are being treated by our EP’s through the following compensable schemes

  • WorkCover/WorkSafe
  • Medicare
  • TAC (Transport Accident Commission)
  • NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme)
  • DVA  (Department of Veterans Affairs)

Can I claim for Exercise Physiology services at your facility?

You certainly can. Once the session is completed with the Exercise Physiologist, we process these via our HICAPS machine terminal at reception so that you receive your rebate as quickly as possible.

Are there any other compensable schemes that your Exercise Physiologists see?

Anyone approved for support through the following compensable schemes can be treated by our Exercise Physiologists.

How do I book in to see an Exercise Physiologist?

Members can book into see our Exercise Physiologists at reception, in the health club or via Active World. 

If you are a member of Yawa Aquatic Centre you can access our Exercise Physiologist’s as part of your membership. Our EP's will you help determine the best course of exercise treatment for your injury/illness or condition.

If you are not a member of Yawa you can access Exercise Physiologists with a referral from your GP or local Allied Health Professional. To find out more, get in touch via our enquiry form here.
